Post subject: | Wires connected to outdrive 248V? |
Hey guys, I know, I know, I am really abusing this forum, but hopefully all my stupid questions will help the next poor soul looking for answers some day. Of course, this one is simple, and I could find the answer in a manual somewhere, but of course all the manuals are on the boat, which is not at my house but at a boatyard which I can't get to for a few days. Anyway, there is a wire running to the outdrive on the starboard side. It is black and connects to the side under a large rubber cover. It looks like it has 3 wires inside it, 2 black and 1 white. Upon close inspection, I noticed the white wire on mine was broken. I also noticed that my zincs looked brand new, and my engine was showing a bit of corrosion, more than any other year. I am thinking that must be a ground, but I am not sure. Why would there be 2 blacks wires and one white wire in a ground? Any ideas? Jay |

Sounds like you are describing the wires to the trim sensor. The trim sensor is on the right side of the transom shiels and the outdrive. it has two small SS adjustment screws. Part number 1 ![]() Doug Russell has it http://dougrussell.com/partscatalog/volvo_omc/index.cfm?fuseaction=comp&group=3325&GroupList=3300,3301,3303,3302,3304,3305,3306,3310,3309,3312,3311,3314,3313,3315,3317,3316,3318,3320,3319,3321,3322,3323,3324,3325,3326,3327,3328,3329 |

I too noticed a frayed wire on my outdrive yesterday! Luckily, I have the mechanic coming tomorrow to get me ready for the water so he will repair/replace it. I'll let you know exactly what happens. Dennis |

Yeah, that is definitely the part I am looking at. The weird thing is, the white wire is completely broken, not connected to anything and my trim meter works perfectly. I wonder what the heck that white wire is supposed to do. ![]() |

Mechanic was able to save the wire since only the jacket was torn. He used liquid tape and also put more zip tied to hold it in place because the damage seems to have occured by being pinched by the outdrive. |

I went to my dealer today to get their advice. The mechanic told me that if the trim gauge was working, not to work about it. He said that the third wire probably isn't used. Seems like strange advice, but I guess I will save some money by ignoring it. |
