Be sure to ask who the vendor is and check with the vendor for pricing!

I called FW Friday to order opening portlights for my head, galley and the two forward portlights on my 99 Vista 258. Each one was $180.55 through Four Winns. I asked who made them and got the manufacturer. Went to the manufacturers web site and GUESS WHAT??

Are you ready for this one??

They were on closeout (Yes, the same EXACT part #) for $37.95. I bought all 4 for the price of 1 that FW would've charged me.

So just be smart folks. Dont be afraid to look around. Just think, all the money saved on items like such can be put towards gas, insurance, or whatever to have fun times with family/friends on the boat. 8)

Oh, and if you have a Vista 258 (bigger vistas use taylor made) and want to buy some opening portlights, PM me for the info... I dont have it handy, its on my favorites list at home and Im at work right now.

That's great info. I'm not sure if I should be suprised that FW gave you their supplier info or not.

When I called to ask them about alternative handles for the transom they eventually let me know the supplier. That supplier, however, won't sell something direct, citing liability risks.

I'm not surprised FW lets you know the supplier. That sounds like they want happy boat owners not just the added markup from parts sales. Besides, I'm sure there will end up being PLENTY of boat owners that won't go through the effort to save themselves a fair chunk of change by going direct, more than offsetting the possible loss in profit. Now, the dealers might not like this...
