Bob is right on the money! I have the same piece and had no clue what it was for.. I posted here last season and someone helped me out with the same answer! I am going to try it this season

I apologize for such silly questions, but I am learning! We are starting our 2nd season with our 2005 268 Vista and we never used the camper at all last year. Today I unpacked it and most pieces make sense except one! It is about 5 feet long and 4-5 inches wide (it gets wider at the ends). Could someone please help a newbie out! |

That is the boot that covers the canvas when it is not being used. When it is folded up without the side and aft curtains, and front and side isinglass maybe? |

I have one of those as well. Its just a single strip. No idea what it goes to. Mine sits in the basement. maybe someday it will all make sense. |

Without seeing it I can’t be sure but I don’t think it’s the boot; the boot is much wider than 5-6 inches. There is a piece that has zippers on both sides that fits that description. It zips into the underside the bimini top about midship and it can be removed when not n use. It’s used when the aft section of the bimini is folded closed and the front remains down. This allows the helmsmen to remain in the shade and the crew to enjoy the sun without the bimini folding back down. It’s easier to explain with photos but I don’t have any of this piece. |

You're right this is just too funny! I spend a good part of last Saturday figuring out my camper canvas and putting it up on my 278. That was certainly harder than I imagined. I purchased one of those snap tools that has been discussed elsewhere on this forum. I honestly don't think I could have got all the snaps fastened without it. We spent our first night Saturday and it got pretty cool Sunday morning and the camper was nice and cozy once the sun came up. Now the question I have is whether to take it down or not. I left the boat in the slip with the canvas up and it looks like it will be cool again this weekend so I'm sure I'll use it. What I can't imagine doing is putting up the canvas very quickly if a storm is coming in. I'm know I'll get better at it but how long does it take to get all that up one you know where everything goes? I know I will not want it up during the heat of summer but I'd sure like to get out of the rain when it comes. |

I can put my canvas up in three minutes With no help.. it would take me 15 minutes with "help".It's amazing how fast you can get that stuff up when it starts to pour

If the boat had a radar arch, I would leave the front pieces in, but since the 248 obviously doesn't, we take ours down everymorning. Actually, we hardly ever put it up unless there's a good reason too. Our slip is covered, so that probably has a lot to do with it. |

And when you get one, post lots of pictures that way I can buy from the same place. I also prefer my arch to swoop forward.
