We seem to be about what FW states in their spec for a Volvo 5.7 OSXi. About 11 GPH @ 3500 rpm - 28 mph. Its pretty consistent. We try to avoid WOT as much as possible. With the price of gas, I am considering oars for all guests. |

I usually see about 13 gallons per hour, per engine when at the usual 23-26mpg cruise speed. This with twin Crusader 6.0L engines and inboard v-drive props. WOT burns a staggeringly higher amount. I've blocked it out of my mind. The wife makes the fingers-thumb rub motion (money, money) whenever she hears the RPMs kick up. It has to be one helluva good reason to crack open the throttles for anything more than a few minutes. I'm guessing this season we'll be experimenting a bit with some slower speeds. But unless you're poking along at displacement speed I don't recall the burn rate being significantly lower. I think the typical gauge for most express cruiser type boats ends up being 1mpg. This has never been a cheap hobby, dwelling on fuel costs isn't worth the stress for us. So it's burn baby, BURN (both the fuel and the week's pent up stresses). |
