4:25pm Atlantic Ocean 1/4 mile off shore. Relatively calm sea 2-3ft sea with 7-8ft rolling swells. Boat is running great. Handles the swells with ease. Very smooth ride. Stats- 3500rpm 23-24mph temp 175 oil pressure just above 40. Man she really handles the sea nicely. I wouldn't be afraid to go out in rough conditions at all. The ride is very dry and confortable. We are about to head in the manasquan inlet.

Having suffered through a thunderstorm with 7' breaking seas and 50+ knot gusts, yes, the boat can definitely handle some very challenging situations. The only other time things were uncomfortable was some really tightly spaced 3-4' rollers coming up the Chesapeake about an hour after dark. The boat took it all quite well but there are just some conditions that are never going to go smoothly. Just keep the hull from pounding and keep the props in the water. Get wet if you have to in order to save the hull from banging on waves. Likewise, don't let the props spin up due to being out of the water as you get over swells. Not as likely to occur on our type of boats but rough conditions will present the risk.

Hope the rest of the trip is as much fun!

Well we made it in the manasquan inlet with my dad at the helm as I was sending that last message. Man was he in heaven navigating the big swells rolling in the inlet. Boat handled great for the whole trip. Red Bank to Point Pleasant overall elapsed time 3 hours. 15 min stop to fuel up before hitting the ocean. Anyway up the manasquan river into the canal that connects to the top of barnegat bay and then up the beaverdamn river. The one question mark was is this boat going to clear the beaverdamn bridge??? It was ultra high tide as we approached, the marker under the bridge showed less than 12' clearance, the line under the 12' mark was covered and the water was just below the bottom of the 2 in 12. I had my son stand in the windshield walk thru as we approached ever so slowly. I was ready to hit reverse hard. Fortunately there was little wind and the water was very calm as it usually is here. My son reached his arms up as high as they could go and his finger tips were well above the top of the radar dome. we approached ever so slowley to find that we had about a 12-14" of clearance. The Nav light was tipped all the way down and the antena was tilted all the way back. Man what a relief!!!! I won't have to wait here this summer as the bridge only opens every 1/2 hour from Memorial day to Labor day. Well once under the beaverdamn bridge it was clear sailing up the beaverdamn creek to ShoreHaven yacht club, our mooring for the season. I was happy to see several familiar faces on the dock as a number are already in for the season. It was nice to show off the new boat too. Everyone was extremely impressed with the FourWinns and most of the people that were already in are Sea Ray owners. At first they accused me of being a sell out and traitor until they came aboard!!!! Once they checked out the quality and ammenities of the FourWinns all the critics were silenced. many walked away mumbling....in envy I can only assume. Well I am in houston TX on business all week and can't wait to get back on friday. I will head straight to the shore from the airport even if it is just to sit on her at the dock friday night.

Rberm - well done! What a terrific first trip to get under your belt - congratulations. I'm really looking forward to having a few more hours of cruising under my belt just to get accustomed to the feel, the weight and even the harmonics. It makes me a bit uneasy not knowing if things are sounding and feeling the way they're supposed to.
And isn't it really something to see people's reaction to the new ride? Of course, everyone loves a shiny new boat. But what I've consistently found every time I have given a tour (to many an experienced and opinionated boater) is the way people marvel at the thoughtfulness of the design, the extra "oh yeah, what a smart idea" touches and the apparent quality of the build. Everyone has pointed out how warm and graceful the cabin is and how well the cockpit is laid out. Come to think of it, those are all of the things I noticed my first time on board.

Cheers to a great season 8)
