Hi, Ive had my boat for three weeks now and it was only after the first week that I noticed that it was listing to starboard, its not a lot, but viewed from the stern the swim platform is lower on the rhs by about 2 inches, does anyone else have this issue?
I have checked the fuel tanks and at the moment the port tank is 3/4 full while the starboard tank is about 5/8 full, the water is full and I dont have a grey water tank. I have the generator which is what I suspect is causing the boat to list as its on the extreme starboard side in the engine bay(facory genset). I have no other accessories with any weight issues that I can think of that would account for the list.
Look forward to hearing if this is common.
Robbi

My 248 leans to one side while just sitting. That is what your asking, right? Not after on plane and under way.

I blame mine on the water tank and how we have the boat loaded.

My 248 does. Definitely has to do with the load in my case. If I pump out my waste tank it seems to make a difference.

The waste tank is down low in the belly of the midcabin I doubt it's the waste tank causing the issue as much as it is the water tank.

I haven't noticed my 248 listing to starboard, then again, I haven't measured it at the platform either.

You could always do what I plan to do long term. Eliminate the fresh water tank, install a genset and move the fresh water tank to the port side of the mid cabin. As long as you don't have a gray water tank this is very doable.. And you could even skip the genset if you wanted. :)

After talking to our dealer, he moved the batteries on my 258 to compensate for not having the genset. We had a slight list to the Port side. That appears to have leveled things out. I guess its a balancing act based on features and options purchased versus how much fuel, water and waste. We had the same issue with our 230 Horizon.

Sounds like you are full of crap!!! :D  :P

Mine lists to one side too. When we first got our boat, I thought maybe I was taking on water, but I just realized "it is what it is"

On our 268, if the water tank is not full, it will list to port in the slip.

Both of my 258's ('95 & '99) have listed to port due to water heater, batteries, AC, & fridge all being on that side. I could move the batteries as a friend did, but I just live with it. Its OK when out on the water. Sometimes it can be a problem when loading so I have someone stand on the starboard side as we pull it out.

Thanks for the replies guys! It seems that most people with Vista's under 30 feet at least have some sort of list at rest. I understand the fact that just about everybody buys a different configuration, but its not rocket science to get weight distribution corect. I'm a little dissapointed in Four Winns in not putting in a little more effort in every boat to get it right. After a while (or by now) they should have a formulae on config of how boats are set up and adjust the internalcomponents (water tanks, batteries, gensets, and fuel tanks, grey water tanks)which are ordered in each particular boat accordingly.
Thanks for your replies
Robbi

I have found that once you sit at the cockpit table, the boat levels off. having a narrow beam would make it more likely to list. They probably figured the weight of people on board would cure the list

That is it exactly. Also, you can't build a custom boat for each buyer, not in a mass produced company like FW. Options added or subtracted from the configuration you choose, will add or subtract from the weight distribution. It's up to the boater to balance the weight according to what equipment he has , and amount of passengers he is carrying.

Capt Morgan, I think that is a complete copout! At the very least, the boat as it leaves Four Winns with major components like fuel tanks, water tanks, grey water tanks and Generators is the responsibility of the manufacturer to be mounted correctly, and to propose otherwise (ie suggest that the customer have to play with these)is proposterous. The boat as it comes from the factory(not including any alterations from the dealer)should at least be balanced in the water at rest so at least to have a neutral starting point for safe boating. Whether or not you have any connection to Four Winns should not cloud judgement on issues like safety. I agree that with small boats weight distibution is an inmportant issue and up to the owner/skipper to manage these details but the boat should be weight neutral from day one at least.
cheers Robbi
