connection . Our dock has incredible water pressure. Great for washing the boat but bad for the boats water system. Well me being the idiot that I am, I forgot to turn the water off last weekend when I left the slip so I sent my brother-in-law down to turn it off as he lives a lot closer than I do. When he arrived, the pressure had blown the fitting clear off the back of the boat.

Let me describe that a little better. The female receptor on the transom (I love saying that) had actually been blown off my boat. There is nothing left but the plastic inlay where you hook up the water. Now, I have allready installed a flow protection device to limit the flow of water in the event something would break inside the boat. Something I recommend EVERYONE DO if you slip your boat and leave the water hooked up.

I was looking around my marina and noticed that most of the other boats had complete metal fittings. The whole thing, not just the hose connection, were made out of metal. My question is, besides reordering the same cheap plastic one that FW installed, where could I find a nice metal one? They all appear to be the same shape and size.

But it's 50 psi. What is the current vista system regulated for? I thought it was 20 or 30 psi.

My marina has something like this http://www.campingworld.com/browse/skus/index.cfm/Outdoor-and-RV-Accessories/RV-Maintenance/RV-Freshwater-Systems/Hi-Flow-RV-Water-Regulator/skunum=26539 attached to the water line that helps keep water pressure spikes down.. I have seen some of these things that can be turned down to 30 psi.

After replacing 2 of the plastic ones I bought a Perko metal dockside hose connector, but it does not have a pressure regulator built in. I put one on the end of the hose bib connection. I also use brass quick disconnects so its easier to take the hose off when we leave.

Well I got one coming from the Four Winns Dealer and it's supposed to be limited to 35 PSI and be made of metal. We'll see.

Woggy, our 2008 V248 has a metal one. FW must have fixed the problem.

Just an FYI to anyone using a hose on their Vista, make sure you have some sort of flow regulator that will shut the water off after so many gallons. You can pick one of these up at your local hardware store. I believe javalich sells them through his website as well.

I have two valves on my shore water hose. I have a brass 45 degree shut off valve at the shore power hookup. I have a straight one at the dock supply valve. I shut off both. This also keeps the hose from getting contaminated from being left open. I've also got some brass quick-disconnect fittings. This lets me pop off the hose from the transom connection without threading it over and over.

But regardless of how it's connected, it's good advice to NEVER EVER leave the boat unattended with shore water connected to it. Your bilge pumps will probably not be able to keep up should a hose fail. They'll keep up 'for a while' but when they fail the boat will sink. This is why I make it a point to notice if anyone else's bilge pump seems to be running more than necessary. Two times now I've helped fellow slipholders discover a leak in their fresh water system because I noticed their pump coming on a bit too regularly.

The flow guardian gadget looks like a great idea. If I weren't so picky about dealing with the hose myself I'd certainly consider one.

Oh, and don't assume that just because YOU shut off the valve at the pedestal that someone else won't accidentally turn it back on again. Or bump it when coiling up their hose. That's why I have my own valves inline too.
