If I remember correctly, the impeller fro the genset was less than $30.

Yep, gensets love to be used. If you don't use them they appear to be nothing but a problem. We run ours for at least 1 hr whenever we take the boat out. It's important that it be run under some load. For us, the bat charger/refig circuit and the a/c

Thanks All for this Thread and John for Zeroing in on the impeller.

I replaced the impeller on my 2001 vintage Kohler 5E on my 298 after reading this thread. First time since the boat was new in 2001. Easy to get to. When I took it out - 3 vanes missing! I will pay more attention to the scheduled maintenance. The manual clearly states annually or 200 hours.

Ran it for over an hour up to cruising speed. When I usually did this, the GENSET stalled. Then "I" shut it down.
