Has anyone ever replaced their waste holding tank sender/float? We have a 2000 268, and a number of years ago we cleaned it off (not something that I ever want to do again!) and it seemed to monitor the tank better for a while. Now it must be stuck in the full position, and I just want to replace the thing. Is there a stainless steel option out there to replace the plastic one that's in the tank now? Thanks Dave |

There are monitors that attach to the outside of the tank. They're more expensive, but you gain the advantage of never having to clean them again. Most tank systems are incompatible with each other. So if you replace the sensor in/on the tank you also have to replace the monitor panel on the wall. And sometimes you also have to pull new wire, but if the systems use the same number of wires you can just splice things as necessary. I replaced my Xintex system with a SeaLand and it's worked ok this season. The xintex being the hollow column type (that ALWAYS gets clogged) and the sealand being the float type. I'm sure it'll get clogged eventually. But I plan on installing a Camco tank washer fitting at some point. If your float system gets clogged you can usually clear it by dumping a bit of Pine Sol cleaner into the tank and filling it about 3/4" with water before going out on a lively trip through choppy water for about a half-hour. The soap along with the wave action is usually enough to loosen the gunk. Just make sure to pump out twice, once to empty it and again to get most of the soap out. Tedious, to be sure, but usually only something you have to do once a season. |

Update: I spoke with Four Winns and Xintex. Xintex has a replacement for the old style, which is now a pneumatic system. The TS-09 on my boat now would be replaced with the PTS-08 (1 inch shorter). They said it is maintenance free (a good thing!) but also about 2x as expensive (a not so good thing). It's about $115 |
