Hey guys, Didn't try to use it last year but it appears my water heater doesn't heat water via AC. The engine coolant heats the water but AC will not. Interestingly, when connected to the EU genny, it puts a load on the genny when I flip the breaker. I don't have a manual for this heater but I think it's an attwood 6 gal. I was thinking maybe I need to bleed off air as maybe I was getting a failsafe shutoff or something but that doesn't really make sense if it works under engine coolant heat. Do you think it's shot? Thanks! |

Check your connections to the heating element, and the element itself. I had to change mine about $25. Took me about an hour to do. Jeff |

Thanks Jeff, will do. How did you test the element itself? Also, did you call the mfg and order the replacement part direct? Attwood's website is pretty weak. |

mine was obvious it was broken. And all connections were corroded. I took the model # from the heater and did a google search for parts. I might have gotten it from Boatfix.com but cant remember for sure it was a couple of years ago. You can check the resistance with a meter to find out if it is defective. Also there should be a small breaker on the thermostat. It is the small about the size of a #1 phillips, that may have tripped, this could be a sign that the thermostat is bad. Good Luck! Jeff |

If its simmilar to my RV heating element, I found a replacement for attwood/suburban water heater at home depot. I would take element out and try home depot or plumbing supply house. |

Would the one from Home Depot be Ignition Protected with appropriate USCG approval markings? Not sure if this applies but just in case! |
