Post subject:  My dinghy really lasted long (NOT!)

I forgot to post about my dinghy adventures!

I had the dinghy out (solo) once and it worked great. So last weekend I decided to take the boat out on Saturday and took a friend and his daughter out. I strapped the Dinghy on the platform (Dinghy was 11' long) when leaving the docks at the marina the rub rail on the dinghy caught a makrelon dock cleat and the rub rail was a very tactile type of grippy rubber, it held onto the cleat, eventually tore through and the cleat in no uncertain terms, ripped the rub strip off of the dingy. Just so happens the rub rail was thermally welded onto the main tubes and it ripped the weld right out.

So there goes $300 down the drain :(

Next on the list? Zodiac Cadet 8' 6" (The right way.... the way I SHOULD have went to begin with). I'm thinkin that's a "next year" project because it's going to be expensive!

Bummer deal!

I REALLY want a 10' with a 9.9.......but for this exact reason I have stayed with the 8.5' inflatable. It is pointless to put a big motor on it because all it does is flex (I tried!!LOL)

I'd sell my whole package for 900.00 if someone really wanted it LOL!!!!

Seriously though its a good for what we use it for, which is getting the dog to shore!

Robbi,

No update on the garage yet. I haven't finalized my loan, I decided rather than wait and do heat next year, insulation etc, I am just going to borrow enough to finish it all this year (that is the plan).

Ken,

Yeah it's not worth it to have a longer inflatable it's just going to end like mine did.. You need something no longer than the beam of the boat. And I will spend the money on a good davit system. This whole ordeal really stunk... Thank the lord it was only $300 or so, rather than a few thousand!

Sounds like a good plan Brett, rather than drag it out.

Hey Ken, why didnt the Weaver Davits work for you?
cheers Robbi

Ken,

What's the details on this dinghy? is it a wood floor, slat, aluminum floor or HPA floor? What year is the engine and dinghy and how does it run? What's the max capacity and has it ever been repaired?

Thanks!

Sorry to hear about your dinghy man. I just had my floor reglued for 300 bucks. Can't complain cause that's all I have in it since my grandfather left it to me. It's 12 years old so that glue eventually gives up evidently. It's the slat floor zodiac and I just inflate/deflate and roll it up and leave it on the ESP. It doesn't go anywhere either.. I actually had the rope come untied to the back seat last weekend and it stayed put on a run in 3'+ seas on the way to the inner harbor!

I was kidding, I dont really want to sell!

But it is a 2003 west marine (By Zodiac) 8.5'

#3 person (I think), max 4 hp

The motor is a 2001 3.5 hp Johnson!

Ken,

Can you detail why the Weaver Snap Davits didn't work out well for you? It seems like the best setup for a small cruiser but if they don't work, that sure would be a waste of money.

Thanks

Yea man! I'm pretty much over there every weekend. I see a few nice 325s over there....... we should have a Four Winns Rendezvous on the bay this summer! This pic of the gf would have been better but you can hardly see the dinghy :)

I think I saw you there one weekend. A lot of Four Winns there. We go there when we don't go to Still Pond. We always raft up next to my brother who has a 378 and both our boats are identical but he's got the satellite on his arch. I'll have to stop over next time we anchor up. Later.
