Post subject: | Throttle Control Question |
Last week when I begun to move out of my slip I tried to put the engine in gear. With my wife in the bow of the boat and my daughter at the stern the wind began to move me out of my slip... I tired to put the engine in gear and nothing happened. I moved the throttle forward. Yikes nothing. I tried to shift it into reverse. Yikes nothing. Fortunately my daughter was able to reach our lines and we were able to get the boat back into the slip. When I looked at the throttle control I notice a piece of rubber on the end of the throttle, took it off and noticed the nut that holds the throttle in place was loose, almost off the thread. I tightened back up and it would shift once again. There seems to be a button you can push in that move the throttle back and forth without anything happening. Does anyone know what this is for? This is a EFI VP engine, so it doesn't seem to be a choke. I am not sure this is related but sometimes I have a hard time shifting into reverse. It seems to be jammed then after some nudging it goes into reverse. Any idea's on this? Thanks in advance Scott |

Sounds like the button your talking about is the throttle control. Start the engine. Hold in on the botton as you push on the throttle and it should only give you engine rpm's for warm up. Holding in on the button will allow you to run the engine above an idle without engaging the drives. To return to normal simply bring the throttle back to neutral and then forward in gear. ![]() |
