Has anyone installed a Marine Air Systems A/C in their Vista 268? There is one there now but it's dead.
Looks fairly easy but I been stung thinking like that before.

Thanks - Jeff

I have not, at least not yet, but others have. Here is a website with several interesting projects on a Four Winns 268. There is also a lot of info on what is inside One of the projects is a new A/C install. Here's a link:
http://boat-project.com/sitemap.htm#nav

If you are replacing an existing unit you might give some thought to what size (BTUs) the replacement is. The original was 5000BTU. There are some units that are 6000 or 7000 BTU, or you might be able to shoehorn a larger unit into place, but you may need to change the circulation pump, ducting, and other parts. Some others on this site have added another A/C outlet on the front side of the galley cabinet to cool the front of the cabin. You might do a search in the Vista category.

How do you define "dead" in this case? Perhaps a repair is possible.

Mine got low on refrigerant mid-summer; probably has a small leak. I had it recharged and it made it through the season.

I tried digging up an old thread but couldn't find it. I upgraded the A/C in my 2004 268 to a larger unit and installed a vent in the forward v berth. Made a huge difference in summertime cabin temps.

Toughest part is getting the cabinet out. I installed Firecadet old unit in my 248 from scratch. Not a difficult job to just replace a unit

I would consult a marine hvac person to help determine if it can be fixed or if you need a new unit. They can help you better size a new unit for your area if needed.
I am in CT and 5000 btu's was not sufficient in my 258 on extreme days. Granted new units are more efficient which is why I would consult an expert. They are not cheap to buy and make a mistake.
