Post subject:  Fueling two tanks...

Hi everyone, I’m new to this forum and to Four Winns.... also to twin engines. I recently bought a V318 and haven’t fueled it yet. I’m hoping someone can tell me if the port and starboard tanks are connected or do the need to be filled individually. If they are separate do you guys just drag the fuel hose across the boat or turn it around???
Thanks!

You will need to fill each side separately. The fuel lines are large enough to supply the engines, but not large enough to allow the fuel to transfer from one side to the other and equalize while fueling. Also, the fuel levels in the two tanks will not equalize if your boat is not sitting level.

The fuel system has 3 valves that allow you to separate the 2 systems (normal) by closing a "crossfeed valve", or run both engines from one tank if needed.

Your Owners Manual covers the fuel system description. If you don't have the Owners Manual, one can be downloaded from the www.FourWinns.com website. Click the "Owners" tab. Select your year and model. You will also find performance specs in the "Fast Facts" section, the on-line parts catalog, and other info.

Fuel fill hoses at the marina's are long enough to go across the boat and reach both tanks. On my 318 it wasn't too bad, swinging it across the swim platform and up to the fuel fill.

Word of advice - ensure the O-rings on the fuel fills are in good shape! With the 318, rainwater will settle on top of the fuel fills, very bad location on that boat. Thankfully it's a non issue on my 358 as the fills are located further forward.

Take note of the advice given to run fuel hose outside of the boat, a cross rear platform and to fuel fill on opposite of dockside.

This helps prevent accident fuel spillage within confines of boat. Just saying this to highlight advice already given.

If hose isnt long enough to do this safely...then turn her around. Not inferring you dont know, but BOATUS has a free certification course online that addresses fueling safety. I've been boating 30 years and recently took this course and learned what I thought I already knew.
