Post subject: | Anode Question |
Just wondering how often everyone changes their anodes in fresh water. I replaced all anodes prior to the 2018 season and did not launch last year. They have some wear but wondering if I can let them go another year? I have Bravo III drives. Not trying to be cheap, just making my pre-launch list. |

Every year. Home port is fresh water on a river but we do venture out to salt so my wear is greater. I use all aluminum. This has been for both when we had a volvo sterndrive and now with v-drives. They aren't cheap for hunks of metal but they aren't break bank either. A corrosion issue on the other hand could be. I look at it this way. I think my total for anodes is about $100 but any part I have in the water to replace because of corrosion is HUGE bucks. Period checks are also a good idea. Whenever i am in the water swimming I take a peak. |

I leave mine in the water and have to replace every year as they get bad. I am in 100% fresh water but there is a lot of leakage at my marina that eats them up. I would not want to take a chance and reuse to find out they are gone at the end of the year. I purchase all mine online from different places each year (just find the cheapest place). I use Magnesium since I am 100% fresh water. I also use the rudder 3.5" pucks on the trim tabs as well as the engine ones. |
