I finally got around to completely removing the (original) rubrail & railing on my Vista... I was having water intrusion on my cabin sidewalls & water stains/mold on my wall liner clearly coming from the rubrail area. What I found: What very little original sealant/caulk/silicone Four Winns put on the boat to seal the joint was compromised in entire areas, leaving a several feet section of an 1/8-1/4" gap for water to get in, or just completely missing sealant like it was never put on  Either way in 1997, there must've been a shortage of sealant because its pitiful how little there is. Also there are screws every 12" or so fastening the deck to the hull, and every single one was loose. Yup, found the source of the water intrusion!

1.) What should I use to re-seal the deck/hull joint behind the rubrail? Do I use 3M 4200 or 5200?

2.) Also, when re-installing the rubrail track, I am obviously going to dip each screw into some 3M 4200, but do I also run a bead of 4200 on TOP of the rubrail? Four Winns put a little strip of butyl tape (I think thats what it is at least). It is in marginal condition.

Use 4200 on the joint and I prefer LifeCalk on the screws...
