Who'd a thought -- 47.2mph on the GPS! Still breaking in the engines, but when AC/DC came on the radio - the wife already knew it was coming. I got as far as "hey honey!" - and with a shake of her head, we went from a gentle cruise at 3300 rpms (about 26mph) and throttled her up to just over 5000. We were not fighting lake current... little/no wind... canvas was totally up. Gas was well over 3/4. Water was 3/4. And yes - there was even a fair amount of the "black water" in the holding tank. Couldn't believe that when I got it all trimmed out - we saw 47.2 over GPS. I was very impressed with that. I was trying to find out what the expected performance was - but haven't been able to find it. Anybody questioning how awesome this hull design is --- 14000 pounds flying across the water at 47+ does NOT suck. She felt planted and stable the entire time. Lake temp was a cool 46 degrees. Outside temp -- middle of winter in Seattle -- mid 40's. A gorgeous and empty day on the lake! ![]() |

Seams like you are enjoying your boat cougarcruiser. Post more pictures us northerners have to boat through you. We hit 41 on our GPS with full fuel and water. And we have only the 5.7 in ours. The Four Winns hulls are awesome. |

Your good for 50 with the canvas down, broken in engines, and less liquid weight. |

Our 318 has the 5.0's and we've hit low 40's...42mph with the boat having "normal" loads. As Cougar says, very stable, felt very safe. |

Cattailspa - I don't recall... do you have i/o's? Cougar - was changing 'Speed' to 'SOG' the fix on the GPS? I don't recall seeing a post after you got it working. |

Sierra -- what you said was EXACTLY it. I just had to switch panels on the C80 to show COG/SOG rather than "Speed". Pow - there it was! I can't imagine the 318 hitting 50. WOW. that's really moving for a big boat. I'll try it again when I'm a little lower on fluids and maybe going with the wind or something! |

Tangible proof that i/o's do have a higher top-end than the inboards (not that there was any question). cougarcruiser wrote: Sierra -- what you said was EXACTLY it. Cougar I wouldn't believe it had you not said it! Hmm, wonder what my 260 will do? We'll find out later this month... Bummer, I mssed such a nice day on Lakw WA...being in Chelan and doing remodel stuff. 40 and sunny yesterday but back to winter today in Chelan. Nice pic of Husky stadium from the entrance to the cut.... Optimus |

Heh, get a fuel flow sensor setup. You'll be aghast at how rapidly wide open throttle consumes gasoline.... |

Cougar, that is an assume speed our 318 with full fluid and full gear "everything but the kitchen sink" we have hit 45 with full canvas. It is really a great hull design it feels very stable with no sway or chin rock. Also the engine sound is great when they are wound up!! |

After your 47+ mph jaunt how did things look down below?...Did everything stay in place? Glad you are boating...must be nice! I did, however get to see my boat unwrapped Saturday and posted pics in my original thread. Was good to see the guys at the dealership...although it seemed like they would rather be playing in the snow...LOL |

It was a super smooth 47mph -- no getting beat around - or even bouncing. She was smooth as silk on Saturday. I'll have to take another run or two when the fluids are a little lower. However - I think I'll definitely lose a couple ticks once I have her bottom painted... |

Best with my 288 was 52 on the GPS. I don't stress it that much, just usual check every so often to make sure I'm still turning WOT in the recommended range. IMHO, Four Winns hit a home run wit the new hull design that started with the 288 Vista. Much dryer ride than I ever experienced with my 248 Vista and as Cougar mentioned, rock solid ride. I routinely run 35 -37 across Tampa By in a moderate chop. Only rough issues I have is large sport fishers plowing water in narrow channels with a total disregard of other boats... |

jvalich - That's the greatest full-throttle-application excuse I've heard! "Hey honey, I need to make sure the props still spin up to full RPM range. Hang on! It's a maintenance procedure". ha ha ha. Doing 50 in a big cruiser will raise the hairs on the back of my neck! I can't wait to give it a go! I may even try to snap a picture of the GPS readout! |
