What is your experience with Flexiteek on the swim platform and cockpit? Does it get too hot to stand on during sunny days? Does it clean well? Any other issues? It sure looks nice.

Another question to add...

Is there anything you need to do other than cleaning it to maintain it? Does it need oiling or sealing or anything?

I have been looking at it myself, the admiral hates scrubing the swim platform all the time. The interesting thing is they have it with a black "caulk" look and a white "caulk" look. I wonder if the white would be cooler.

We have it with the white and it's fricking awesome.

We also don't have the extreme heat issues that some do around other parts of the country. I don't see it as a problem for us.

If I had to do it over again, I would, without hesitation... But it would have the white caulk lines. The black lines do absorb the heat more than the white will, and it does get warm to the feet on a 90 degree day, but it's bearable for me, I can live with the heat to do away with the crappy sand finish non skid that FW uses that is the most dirt trapping design for non skid you can have.

There is NO special anything, required with Plasdeck. If you get a stain in the material it can usually be sanded out with 120 grit there is no sealant required, you don't even have to glue the stuff down if you don't want to make it permanent. I don't have all my pieces glued down yet. My swim platform is done as are my engine hatches, the other pieces are just "laying" in place till I get the time and weather and help to lay them with the mastic.

The black caulk line synthetic teak uses a black adhesive, so you need to be mindful of your install work, you need to do lots of masking, with white this would not be nearly as much of an issue.

I'll have to video the Admiral going forward in the summer on my boat without her shoes. Let's just say that the brown gel, the sun and bare feet ...well what's that line "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". The video would probably be one of the most viewed on YouTube! I'd guess in the long haul it would be divorce court for me if I did....

The dark gray cockpit carpet can get hot as Hades too on a warm day as well as the dark gray steps that go up to the bow. I guess if you are in a warm client and if you have anything under your feet other than a light color, you are toast (excuse the pun).

As I've posted before (anywhere the topic comes up ) I hate it. It gets the platform way too hot. On anything other than a cloudy day it's unwalkable in bare feet. I end up wasting a lot of fresh water from the transom shower in an attempt to cool it down. I would never, ever put it in cockpit, otherwise you'd have nowhere to escape getting your feet burned. It is "less worse" than the white non-skid surfaces when it comes to hiding the dirt. It does seem to offer better traction, but at the same time the sandpaper-like aspect of it does tend to rough-up bathing suit material. It's been essentially zero maintenance.

I have a 2008 V358 and have the Flexiteek throughout. Cockpit and swim platform and we absolutely love it. I have the white caulk lines and yes it does get a little hot but the look can not be beat and the low maintenance is great. I find that most of the time when I am on the swim platform I am wet from swimming and justing sitting there with a beer and it is fine. In the cockpit on really sunny days we usually have the canvas up to get some relief from the sun so it is partially shaded. If we have a really hot spot we just lay a towl down and walk on that. Not much of a sacrifice to make considering all the compliments I get and the ease of cleaning. It never looks dirty. End of day I just hose it down or sweep it or vacume. All in all if I had to do it again I would do the same thing.

Hi Bill,

What color caulk lines do you have? Does it actually snag bathing suits? I am amazed at the differing opinions and am trying to avoid a huge mistake. We are looking at a 2007 338 with it installed. Our dealer has never had a complaint.

^^If you take a look at that 338 post some pics! I've talked to the dealer about it as well. Sounds pretty nice just wish it had the T+H flooring. I'm stuck in North Dakota right now but I want to go take a look at it. I forgot to ask them which color caulk it has. They couldn't tell me if it had the stainless header so I doubt they know until it shows up which caulk. I'll take it regardless; my floors are always wet and the canopy is almost always up.

Being stuck out of town is no fun. Been there, done that.

The boat was to ship to the dealer in Illinois to be here for this past weekend but the snow and other issues have moved it back to arrive the middle of next week. We are anxious to see it. What have you heard about this boat? I think we are all waiting to see it to get some answers.

The guys out here in Seattle have an all white with a small black stripe. 2008. Loaded. 152k. Twin 5.7 GXI's with Ocean drives.

No flexteak -- but Brett has the inside track on that one. You could add it for cheap.

I believe the story is that this 2007 338 was a factory boat that FW has sold to our local dealer. It's supposed to be well appointed with very low hours but we have not seen any pictures and our dealer is waiting for it to come in. If mkivbren knows any more, please feel free to share. We thought an upgrade was put to bed for the year until this popped up on the market and peaked our curiosity again.
