Hi guys ! Its been a long winter up here in New Hampshire but I finally put the snowmobiles away and now its time to focus on my boat. The ice will be out in a few weeks. yeah!!
Question: I noticed from reading some past posts that a few of you are running a Honda EU type generator strapped to the swim platform. How did you wire it? Did you make up a cord to go from the gen to the shore power hook up? Will this gen run the whole boat? I dont have a/c (yet) Thanks

Yep - get a shore power cable to run it between your shore inlet on the boat and the genny.

I wouldn't plan on it running your heat/ac - that requires more power than the little generator will handle.

A Honda EU2000i will run up to a 12K BTU marine air conditioner (just the AC unit) my EU2000i runs my 5K AC/Heat plus my 20 amp dual bank battery charger plus the refrigerator all at the same time without breaking a sweat. Sure if I want to run the stove or microwave I have to turn off the AC, and that's not a real big deal.

I use the shorepower cable from the gen to the boat and yes I run it on the ESP.

I have a 7500 btu and my Kipor runs the ac just fine.

I have a 10K BTU and the Kipor 2000 won't run it unless everything else is turned off. There isn't supposed to be any differences between it and the Honda but maybe there is.

The difference is that most guys on this thread running the A/C, Fridge and Battery charger on the Honda, like myself, have the 5k BTU A/C vs your 10K BTU.

Thanks guys! so you must have to get some type of an adapter to go from the 30amp cable to the standard plug on the generator?

Another idea is maybe I should just go and buy a bigger boat with the options that I want!! (a/c, generator,arch,windlass,etc.) I am sure there will be deals out there this year!!

You can go bigger now or later. But I promise - if you start with a 248 - you will want to go bigger sooner rather than later.



Deals are everywhere.

The 248 is a great boat! My families first foray into a cruiser style boat was about the same size/layout. (but, it was a Maxum at the time).

If you have found a great boat at a great price - enjoy it!

There is a 30 amp to 15 amp adapter cable about 18" long that will connect your shore power cable to the outlet on the genny.

That FW part number was just for reference. You might want to check other suppliers like West Marine, etc. as their price may be better.

Cougarcruiser, I don't believe you have ever used a little EU, they are the most awesome little gen set ever. 47 lbs, runs for 12 + hours on 1 gallon of fuel, the most quiet generator on planet earth, and it not much bigger than my igloo lunch box!!!
gcejd, already owns a 258 vista, why would he down size to a 248?



The EU 2000 runs everything but my A/C (13.5k btu) in my 5th wheel and DOES run everything on the boat. Great for powering the TV/fridge/satellite at home during power outages. I highly recommend them. Very portable, reliable, dependable.

One of my next projects is to wire in a marine power outlet in the rear storage box to plug the honda EU into vs running cord to the original shore power outlet.

Not to be too technical but going from a 258 to a 248 would oddly enough be up sizing if you go by LOA!

The little Honda is an amazing generator there is NO doubt about it! If only Honda would get into the permanent install marine gen biz..... They could put Kohler out of biz!
