Hello,

Does anyone know who made the OEM bow remote spot light? I'm looking to add one, but would like something that would mount on the plate that is already there.

Also, how hard is the install? Are the wires there already or will it take some work? Anyone have a howto guide? : )

TIA!

Hey ohiolakerat...

From the picture in the 2000 248 parts book (located here: http://www.fourwinns.net/partbook/basemodel.php?model=248V-D00)...

...it appears to be a Marinco Guest Spotlight (not Spot/Flood) with the closest current model being this. The FW part # appears to be 065-1010 or 1030 when I zoomed in on it.

Can't help you on the install but I'm sure others will chime in :)

Good luck!

Did a little more digging. Even though it's an option the parts are listed under 'deck hardware' in the above link. It is from Guest.

The FW part info is:
065-1010 SPOTLIGHT, REMOTE #502-4 (REPL296-60-B)
065-1055 SPOTLIGHT, CONTROL PANEL GUEST #U-3809
Valid for boats produced from 07/01/1999 thru today.

These spotlights and remote panels are sold at most marine retailers. The light looks like it hasn't changed much, if at all.

ditch that factory spotlight that turns yellow over time and get the guest chrome spotlight like I did. Wiring was a pain but you'll have that either way. This unit is nice in that it has both fog and spot beams. It's the same spotlight used on the bigger boats. I cut the wire to fish it through the railing with LOTS of lube! Then solder and shrinkwrap the connections. Has worked flawlessly and I use it a lot with all of the pesky crab pots here on the bay.
A little more on the install: Get your fish tape out and start fishing! You have to remove the fuse panel in the helm and then "fish" with your tape until it comes out in front of the head. Prior, you have to pull down at least half of the ceiling liner which is a chore in and of itself the way they attach it with velcro. Follow the factory wire chase. You also of course drill a hole for your switch in front of the throttle. Make sure you seal that with epoxy since you expose bare plywood coring. once you have the wire through to the anchor locker then the real fun begins. You have to run through the opening in the bow for the wire back down to the anchor locker. You can't really use fish tape here since you have damn near a ninety degree bend to contend with. I think I ran the fish up from the anchor locker in order to eventually snag the pull rope and pull it though. Then wrap your wires in a layer or two of electrical tape to prevent chaffing, and make a strong streamlined connection to the rope. Youll have to fight it around that ninety in the bow rail. That's where the lube comes in handy. It took about a day to do it by myself. A helper would have been tremendous with this project but I only have helpers when the boat is in the water... go figure.Image

FWIW - the just arrived May issue of Boating has a two-page spread on installing extra lighting including do's and don'ts of installing a spotlight.
