hello everybody i am a new 2005 268 vista owner with many questions. First what size are the speakers in a 2005 268 i think one is blown and need to replace it. second i am going to bring it to winnisquam marina to have grey water system installed should i bother to add black water tank gauge? After reading through many treads it seems they do not work so good. I have many more but will start with these for now. |

Welcome to the forum! Winnisquam is a favorite around here... Great people, great service! Your speakers should be 6.5 inches. Definitely something you can tackle yourself. For the tanks, I wouldn't worry about the guages. It's one more thing to break (and yes, they are prone to breaking). Just be sure to pump out regularly and you should be all set. As long as you can see the tank to verify the level, I wouldn't do the guages. But - if you can't see them, you may want to consider it. |

Most of the gauge issues you read about on this issue are the ones Four Winns sends with their boats, but not all gauges are bad. Since your doing aftermarket you can probably get yourself one that actually works. |

great thanks. that speaker that is blown is on the port side in the main part of the boat, it seems to be behind some cloth material does any body know how to take off that panel? |

Yes, the factory tank gauges .... umm ... suc*... err, don't work well. No, you can not see the tanks, so a working gauge is nice. See if the guys at Winnisquam have a suggestion for non-OEM tank level gauge systems .... that work. |

If it is the same as my 248 which it probably is you will see under the whole piece is a screw. Also under the cloth there is a second screw. Take both off and then lift up the whole piece vinyl and cloth off of the hooks they sit on. |

Brijr77, I too have an 05' 268. Been a great boat and would be glad to answer any questions you have. I recently replaced all my speakers and added an amp and sub. I would be glad to help with any questions you had. For the portside speaker. All the speakers are an easy swap if you wanted to change them for any reason. The portside is probably the hardest of them all, but still pretty easy. To get that panel up there is a screw on the bottom side of the panel towards the front of the boat, you will have to get on your knees to see it. Unscrew that and list that end of the panel straight up. There are about 5 hooks on the back that attaches it to the wall you will lift it out of. I never could find the other screw for the other side, but you won't need to for a speaker replacement. Either have somebody hold that panel or use a rope, like I did, and tie it up while you do the swap. Simple as 4 screws and 2 wires. Do you have to have a grey water system where you are, or does your gray water drain into the black water tank? Our gray water goes overboard. Works well for us. I have the factory tank level indicators, which still work for me, and I like having them. I like to KNOW how much I have in there. If mine crap out on me, that is something I will replace. If you come up with any other questions let me know. After 4 years I hove gotten the bugs worked out and personalized mine with a couple extras for my taste. |

starfish my boat now pumps greywater overboard, but to have the boat in lake winnipausauke or any fresh water lake around here that is not allowed. so i have to install grey water holding tank. what did you end up putting in for replacement speakers? also do you have a tv installed? |

Congrats on the boat! I am sure you will love it. I am entering my 3rd season with ours and couldn't be happier. I had some speaker issues when I got the boat and it turned out to be the connections, not the speakers themselves, so be sure to check that! |

I initially replaced them with JL Audio M-650-ccx speakers. Later decided to put house down in cabin and put M-770-ccx speakers up there. I wanted to get all I could out of the amp I installed and those seemed to do a better job. Required some cutting, but I had done it before and was not scared of it. The 650's dropped right in. Required more holes to screw them in but that was not a big deal. Problem I had was when cruising I could not hear music as I wanted to above wind and motor noise. I do have a TV installed. When you walk down into the cabin area it is directly on your right side. Mounted above the entrance to the aft sleeping area. It has an antenna wired in, which will be usuless in a couple weeks with the digital conversion, but I also have a DVD player mounted just forward the microwave on the upper shelf. On another note. I put the boat in last weekend and noticed the siruis was working. Had not turned it on for the year though, anybody else ever have the same thing? How long will I get it for free?????? |

Do either of you '05 owners have an arch? If so, I have seen pics with what looks like something applied to the arch both front and back that the canvas goes over before it snaps to the arch. My '03 doesnt have that and in certain conditions water leaks in. The applied piece I am reffering to, I think helps keep water out. Pics would be a big help. Thanks |
