I spent the weekend, waxing, sanding and putting on a coat of bottom paint.  Here is the final product... Ignore the trailer... I only go three miles to get to my slip.  A question... How do I clean up the lower unit and the prop?   Thanks... My project for this week is to install the led light... I will post when and if I get done.  Cheers, Scott |

For the lower unit, it looks like it is time to sand, prime and paint. I did mine last year. It takes some time, elbow grease and several cans of paint, but it is worth it. Yours does not look real bad. I sanded mine down to bare metal, and primed it with 2 coats of zinc chromate primer. It's either yellow or green for the primer.  Then light sanding, and apply two more coats of Volvo OD paint.  And you are done and ready to splash the boat.

Gotta do mine too, looks much worse than yours (salt water). Be careful with any kind of zinc chormate primer, it's pretty toxic (fume respirator, goggles, etc). |

The primer was still intact, and no corrosion to grind off. You can also sand , prime and paint with an anti fouling paint too. They do make it in a gray color, but it's not an exact match to the original. Just make sure the anti fouling paint is not copper based. Your OD could probably get away with wiping it down with a good strong cleaner. The prop can be cleaned up with Buff Magic or a stainless cleaner. You don't appear to have much corrosion, so you could postpone the paint job for one more season. Your choice. |
