Has anyone had a leak where the fitting goes into the gimbal housing? The boat is a 2005, 268 Vista. Doesn't leak every trip, just occasionally. With all manuals and research I haven't been able to get a good look at this fitting. Can't physically reach ( or see ) it either. I hate a dirty bilge.

I am confused, Gear Lube is in the out drive, No way it is going to ever make it back into the bilge. Are you thinking a fitting for power steering, or trim is leaking? both of which are hydraulic fluid. If it is thicker oil than hydraulic, maybe you have a rear main leaking motor oil???
Gimbal bearing uses grease, so that's not going to 'leak', but if the bellows has a hole in it, water can leak through bearing into bilge.

Sorry for the mix-up, improper wording on my part. The leak is definitley gear lube. The leak is at the 90 degree quick diconnect at the transom plate. I have installed a trap door in the transom storage compartment hoping to access the problem. ( not much help ) Even with a boroscope I can't get a good look at the fitting. Short of pulling the engine I'm out of ideas. Mercruiser warranty says they are not responsible for faulty installation. The manuals also say if you don't have the fitting facing the right direction, around 10 or 11 oclock, you will get a leak. On the plus side, I can't get lazy and not check the engine compartment before each outing. Any thoughts?
