I live in Texas. Just curious if there are any laws rules or regulations around changing the name of your boat. All my documentation lists the boat as GiGi (after my daughter's nic name). I don't have the name actually on the boat yet. But I think I may want to change the name to Nauti Gigi. After my bad daughter ;P Nah, she isn't that bad. But man! those terrible 2's are challenging times.

Seriously, is the name change process pretty easy?

If you are documented, you are required to submit any boat name and/or home port name changes. Not certain if they charge a fee.

The difference being USCG documentation versus just state registration. I don't recall including a name when I registered the boat in MD, I think it was just the Hull Id Number. Registration varies from state to state.

Laws and regulations aside, there is a very strict process that must be followed so you do not upset the sea gods. There are a variety of ceremonies you can choose from do not skip this step.

Being documented, there is an application process and fee from the coast guard. You also must get approval from your lender if you have a preferred mortgage.
