I either have a lifter tapping or a stuck valve in my portside Merc 5.0... nothing too loud but it is noticeable... my mechanic suggests putting some sort of magic lube in to see if it will unstick itself. The engine only has 80 hours but unfortunately, before we bought it a month ago, it had sat for a whole year without being run... any one heard of this 'magic lube' ??

Just a quick suggesstion from things we run into at the shop here..... Merc's have a flapper in the exhaust pipe and when that goes the metal pin rattles and makes the same sound as a lifter. Didn't know if your mechanic def. found that it's the lifter sticking or he was just guessing... never hurts to check...
