Which FW dealer does mailorder for FW parts? I'd like to get some parts for the transom door latch on our 348. The pin worked loose and I watched it roll eeeeeeever so slowly off the swim platform just as the boat came up on plane. So now I need the bolt, spring and lever.

I'd also like to pick up a whole set as I need to find a way to keep our year old boy from pulling that door open too easily. I'm thinking of mounting a whole second bolt assembly on the outside of the door. I can't just use a regular door bolt as the transom isn't flush to the door. I'd need, at the very least, just the striker plate and then use a regular bolt. Either that or I'd have to get, or have made, some sort of striker plate for a regular bolt (this might be the less expensive/easier route).

Anyway, I seem to recall a dealer being mentioned here that offered decent prices and service. Any recommendations?

You might try e-mailing Four Winns. They've been very good at providing manufacturers' names and part numbers for a number of items on my boat, the last being the companionway door latch. I Googled the part and found it at Go2Marine.com. I haven't had any luck ordering parts from my local Four Winns dealer -- they never respond to my e-mails.

You'll probably get a response from Greg at Four Winns, although sometimes it takes a few days for his reply.

So you have no access to a dealer that will order parts ? Most dealers will, that is their job to support the brand and assist customers. Very strange...........

You might not be aware but all those part numbers can be found on the Four Winns site. This is the link to your boat.

All of us Four Winns dealers can and should order parts for their customers (It's our Job!! :D ). Four Winns is very backed up in that area and it is taking us up to two weeks to get stuff from them. Sorry your dealer isn't helping but there are plenty of us that will.

I just found out why I never got a response from my Four Winns dealer -- they are either no longer a Four Winns dealer or have gone out of business.

But, having said that, I know for a fact that I have been able to save quite a bit of money by obtaining the part numbers from Four Winns and then finding the parts online. For example, my companionway latch from Four Winns was quoted as $81.12; however, I found it at Go2Marine.com for $63.36. The same is true of other replacement parts I have purchased. My chrome faucet cost about $115, but I went to the manufacturer, Scandvik Marine's "surplus inventory" center and found the exact same faucet in white for $53.22. So there are substantial savings to be had.

I too find that getting the part # and finding it online is a cheap way to go as long as it isn't something I would 1. worry about or 2. have to return. Before I put her in this year I noticed that caps off the trim pistons were gone and I got a pair of them for a few bucks online.
Kevin, where on LI do you boat? We are in Cold Spring Harbor. Are you referring to Kydds? We bought from them and have heard they are gone. I haven't had to contact them in 3 years.

Yes, I was referring to Kydds. I had e-mailed them a few times many months ago and never got a response. I assumed they just didn't want to be bothered.

I'm on the south shore, at the Anchorage Yacht Club in Lindenhurst (yes, my Sundowner 205 is a yacht!).

Since I live in Commack, I got on the waiting list and tried to get a slip at the Brittania Yacht Club on the north shore but there were no slips available. But that worked out fine for me since the year-round price on the south shore was literally half what the north shore cost. Of course, it's a longer ride to the south shore.

Sucks they went out of business. We had a real good experience with them and IMHO stole the boat which was a 2 year left over. I had to deal with them twice after purchase and they were great.
I hear you about the difference between the north and south. Fortunately for us, we belong to a beach association in our neighborhood so we have a mooring that just costs me to put in and out. My brother is on the south shore out east and damn those waterways are narrow and crowded!

Narrow, crowded, and shallow! I read somewhere that the average depth of the Great South Bay is less than 6 feet.

Having said that, the south shore is still quite a bit of fun with access to Zach's Bay, Tobay Heading, and certainly Fire Island. Lots to do. Then again, therer's a lot to say about a run across the sound to Connecticut. And certainly plenty of depth!

I agree, it is a shame. Kydd's was around a long, long time. I guess the economy is killing everyone.

There's a difference between just having a dealer in the area versus having one that you trust. Trust to be timely, cost-effective and do the job correctly.
