I let someone use my toilet. for #2! and they used way too much paper. As I am skittish about those things. I don't want to tackle this on my own. I allready tried a plunger to no avail. Can a regular plumber work on a boat toilet. Do they just use s snake or what ever?

Whats recommened for these things?

Boat is an 05 268 Vista with a jabsco hand pump toilet. not sure what model.

When is the last time it was pumped out?

If they used to much paper, the defiantly used way to much water, if you were even getting close to having a full waste tank, and they filled it completely when trying to flush, it will give you the illusion of being plugged, but with a full waste tank there is no where for it to go.

That seems to be the hardest thing for non boaters to get, dont use too much water. A 21 gallon tank can go a long ways if you dont pump 2 to 3 gallons of outside water in everytime you flush.... a major pet peeve!

Did "they" use marine/RV toilet paper? If not, make sure you only use that in the future.
Never try to use a drain cleaner to clear a plugged toilet. The parts are very sensitive and you can cause a great deal of damage. You can try adding warm water to the bowl and leave it for the day or overnight the solids may break down enough to pump out later.

If that doesn't take care of the problem, you will have to take the crapper apart and clear the clog. And or replace the discharge hose.

What about using that blue stuff that's used in chemical toilets to break down "organic things" to try to unblock it ? It works very quickly apparently.

It is not marine grade paper. It was pumped out 2 weekends ago. And haven't really used the head that much since. Ill try the CP product and buy some marine toilet paper from here on out. Can a regular plumper work on a marine toilet? any caveats other than no abrasive chemicals??

I hardly let a plumber work on my regular toilets much less a sensitive marine head.

I would call around to a few marinas and speak to their service departments to find a qualified tech.

Always ensure you you use the blue chemical in your waste tank and if you have some in liquid form you may want to try and pour some dilluted into your toilet bowl and let it sit. If the toilet paper is still in the toilet bowl obviously get that out with a hangar or gloves or something (but don't try and remove anything past the bowl).

Another good tip is after you pump out your waste tank use a bucket or an old gallon jug with the top cut off and put another 2-3 gallons of lake/river water into the tank and re-pump it out to get any residuals.

The Jabsco toilet is very easy to work on. Messy, but easy. I have had the Pleasure of cleaning ours out!!! Fun job. It is possible that too many solids are stuck between the two different flapper valves and pump will not work. Must be manually cleaned out, or may be able to goto pump out and enough suction to free the valves. I would 1st try to take back valve housing off and clear (this is the one that is attached to the discharge hose, 2 screws that hold it together.
You will also notice on the base of the toilet, to one side, opposite of the pump housing, there is a plug that can be removed for clean out, still may not help any if the valves are lodged with paper or solids.

After the 1st season with our boat ('07) instead of buying replacement valves and pump, I bought a whole new toilet, very easy to replace. there are only 4 bolts that hold it to the floor and two hoses to connect, intake and drain to holding tank.

This is exactly what happened to my vacu flush. Thought it was clogged and tried the plunger and snake to no avial. Got the boat tech out and sure enough, some whore flushed her plastic tampon cap down the head and it was stuck between the flapper valves. That bitch cost me about $150 and I didn't even get laid.

LOL, sorry, I only laugh because I have been the poor SOB to clean up a mess!!!!

But for a $150 service call, take the plugged up toilet out, throw away, and buy a new one ($125)!!!

No doubt, toilets are cheap. Luckily, My wife has plumbing contractors. One came out with a commercial grade plunger and gloves. It was paper. all good now. and now we have the quick dissolving marine paper. Thanks for the info and the colorfully anecdotal data.

Shark I can feel your pain through your post, that does suck!. I wish that I had a dollar for every time we ripped the head apart in my father-in-laws Viking when the idiots would try and flush all kinds of crap(no pun intended ) down the head.
