I use Purytec system, one cartridge lasts about 3 months. It fits in-line just before the pump, its a German product, and if available in the US it can't cost more than a few dollars.

All of your Four Winns boats have a tank filter installed in line of the vent. You might have to do a little to find it.. but it is there. They make replacement cartridges for it if you start getting that not so fresh smell everytime someone uses the head.

It's not a replacement "cartridge" you have to replace the whole unit (unless you cut it apart, replace the filter material, the activated charcoal and glue it all back together again).

The device I posted is an inline tank treatment product, not a filter for the vent. If the tank is treated properly, the need to filter the vent is greatly reduced.

This is not entirely correct. Most safe tank treatment systems require air into the tank to help the microbes do their job of breaking down the waste solids.

The product listed is for toilets that use raw water (sea water). Most boats with vacu-flush type systems do not use raw water, they use fresh water from the tank. Using fresh water and vacu-flush toilets eliminates most of the stink associated with boat toilets. Raw water toilets almost always end up smelling nasty. Their website doesn't list what chemicals are used in their "bullets". Some stuff is a lot nastier than the waste (like formaldehyde). I prefer using a treatment that doesn't add more pollution to the pumped out waste. It's just better for the environment.

I agree with that.. I use Campochem Formaldahyde free in mine, seems to work.. But nobody has ever ordered up a #2 combo in mine, either....

Agreed, I said there isn't as much need to filter the vent., not that the vent isn't needed. I have been using odorlos with great success over the past two seasons.

With the microbial-based tank treatments you actually SHOULD use the toilet for #2. It's the solids that the microbes depend upon in order to do their work. Just #1 isn't enough. That and while I do have "a talk" with guests about proper use of the head, I'm not prepared to be the potty police regarding #2 or not. It's a toilet, with a waste system designed to handle both, and I get it pumped out regularly enough to make it a non-issue. Odorlos has been the treatment I've used and it's working well thus far.

I'm just glad ours is a fresh-water based system. Raw water systems are just plain nasty when using salt water. If it wasn't fresh water-based then I'd certainly consider inline treatment schemes. Just as long as I knew what chemicals they were using.
