For the second time this season when we got to the boat everything in the fridge was warm but it was running. I turned the battery switch ( we always turn off the battery switch when we leave) off and fridge went off. It was operating on 12 volt but not 110. I guessed the switching box on the fridge was bad. Later that night I was thinking when I plugged something to the outlet the GFI was tripped. Now, my fridge and the outlet are on the same breaker. So I turned off the battery and tripped the GFI and sure enough the fridge went off then back on when I reset the GFI. Problem solved. For once I got lucky. Now all we have to do is check the GFI before we leave.

Glad it was such a simple fix. Those fridg's aren't cheap to repair or replace.

Mine did the same, I rewired the fridge around the GFI. The GFI's get weak and you are constantly resetting.

How did you rewire it?

Pull out the GFI receptical and move the fridge wiring to the circuit breaker side of it, this way the fridge is not being feed thru the GFI, it can all be done at the receptical itself. This way it still leaves the GFI active for any other appliances you plug into it.

I would not rewire the fridge to avoid coverage with the GFCI. If anything I might consider wiring it into it's own GFCI if there's some other reason the other circuit is tripping.

You're talking live AC voltage here in a wet environment with people also likely to be wet. You don't want to go rearranging things and end up electrocuting someone. I'm sure your insurance company won't take kindly to the idea.

Meanwhile figure out why the other GFCI is tripping. If it's bad or cheap (either's possible) then replace it. It's failing for a reason and that should raise some concern.
