Today after spending three days on our boat the admiral noticed that the bedding in the aft cabin was damp. She thought we had a leak but I quickly figured out it had to be coming from the AC unit. I pulled the cover to check and could see that at the back there is a tray to catch the condensate from the unit. The tray appeared to be full to overflowing so I took my shop vac and got at least a gallon of water out of the tray. I'm sure there must be a drain in that tray but I couldn't feel it in the confined space. I did try to loosen the AC unit but didn't want to go any farther with that than I have to. My question is has anyone else experienced this and if so how do I find that drain? I'm assuming it must drain into the bilge where it is pumped out but I'm just guessing since I have not experienced this problem before.

I dont know for sure, but I know most will be drained to the shower sump and pump overboard. On our 268 the shower sump is located under an accress panel in the floor of the little closet forward of the aft berth

Is that shower sump panel screwed down with two screws? Same bilge pump as the forward bilge?

No A/C here (thankfully) but I believe it should drain into the shower sump as mentioned.

No the forward bilge pump is in the floor of the cabin at the aft berth, the shower sump is under the closet.

Sorry just reread the post, not sure if it is the same pump or not.

I looked in the shower sump and in fact I have been in that area quite a bit with reworking plumbing and replacing my shower sump itself. I couldn't find any hoses that I could identify as coming from the AC unit. While trouble shooting the problem I was able to reach behind the garbage tip out which seems to be right above my AC unit. I can feel a hose if I reach into that void but I am not sure it is the AC condensate hose. What I would like to know is where the condensate drains from that tray. I cannot see or feel the hole I would identify as the drain. I am assuming I have a bit of foreign material or even mold blocking that hose and if I can get to it I might be able to clear the line.

In my 248 the A/C use to go to the shower sump, but the previous owner decided "re-plumb". On my A/C (CruiseAir), the drain hole is on the left of the tray, closest to the wall separating the bilge from the mid-cabin. You should see a black or clear hose.

My extremely uneducated guess would be that you have "growth" blocking the line. Might do some good once you find the drain hole to squirt some bleach down in the hole/drain line. I do this with my house A/C units as well.

Thanks Craig that's what I was looking for and also what I had suspected. I planned to use the bleach but wanted to verify the position of the drain hole first. Very hard to get to in cramped quarters but then what isn't? Perhaps a piece of wire or a long screwdriver would unblock the hole.

the owners manual on my boat shows the hose routing, take a look at your manual.

Speak to your dealer. Your problem is you drain hose!

I had the same prob with my 278 and another guy got his fixed this past weekend after having the same problem with his new boat. The factory leaves too much hose and when the unit is pushed back into position, the hose creates a "reverse trap" or a loop that goes up. At that point, the loop of excess hose is higher han the drain, thus the spill over.
