I have a 1999 Four Winns 258 Vista. A 5.7 280 HP Volvo Penta engine. When I drop the throttle down to idle the rpm's stick around 1200. I have to lift the engine hatch and push on the cable to slow it back down so I can dock the boat. Do I need to replace the throttle cable? If so, do you know the length of cable or the replacement? Or should I just replace the whole control? Thanks

It sounds like you will most likely need to replace the cable. If so, you should be able to get the part number off the Four Winns website or by calling a dealer. However, it could just be out of adjustment. Fortunately, I've got a good boat mechanic that I trust. If it were my boat, I'd take it in to him to have him tell me what needs to be done.
