Post subject: | Battery cable question... |
Settled on moving up to dual batteries for the house systems sooner rather than later... My group 27 ran the fridge, radio, and random other 12v stuff (off and on) for 3 hours on Saturday before dropping to an unsafe level. So -- twin group 29's.... For now, I'm going to use the WalMart 29's... For the price, It's worth a shot before I replace all 4 batteries with Optima's at some point (if ever). So... I got a battery box... and I am going to pick up the batteries in the next day or 2. Question -- I was going to order up a couple of battery cables from http://www.genuinedealz.com - as they have been recommended by people on this forum -- however, what do I need as end terminations for getting these wired up? I assume that the Walmarts just have the standard battery posts, right? I can't recall what I have for wiring on the boat versus what I'll need when I replace the interstate with 2. Are they all just standard top-post terminals, and I just need regular 'lugs' on the end of the cables? I've heard that positive lugs are usually 3/8's and the negatives are usually 5/16's? Any confirmations? One quick trip to the boat and picking up the batteries would solve this for me - I'd just like to see if there are easy answers so I can order the cables today rather than tomorrow... |

The WalMart battery is the one outboard, to the rear. Same type combo post/stud terminals as the other two (interstates). ![]() |

Couger, I added a 4th battery also, I went with 2 group 31 deep cycle for the ship and kept the 2 group 27 starters for each engine. highly recommend you go with deep cycles for your ship batterys |
