I just bought an 07 vista 258. when I took her out yesterday, I noticed an icon of an hour glass keeps popping up on the tachometer. What does this mean? How often should an oil change occur? In order to get a boat serviced does it need to be taken out of the water? How often do bilge pumps go bad? Thanks and appreciate anyone helping out |

Welcome Q: I noticed an icon of an hour glass keeps popping up on the tachometer. What does this mean? A: The engine is running/ the hour meter is counting. In the ignition switch accessory position ( e.g. with the radio on), the icon does not show Q: How often should an oil change occur? A: It's in the owners manual, If you don't have one, I know the VP manual is downloadable from the VP website, probably the same is true for Mercruiser; first oil change after 20 hours if I remember correctly, then each season ( subject to engine hours) Q: In order to get a boat serviced does it need to be taken out of the water? A: That depends on whether you are getting the bellows changed. Later engines have sealed for life gimbal and U/Js that don't need the outdrive removing. Q: How often do bilge pumps go bad? I've never had one fail (oldest was 6 years old, my current one living in a wet bilge is 5 years old). I gather the automatic switches are more problematic than the pumps themselves. Graham |
