Looking at a 2004 FW 288 Vista. How is the hull to the deck joint? Is it put together with scews/rivets, backed in to plywood. OR througbolted? How is the rabrail secured? Is there plywood in the deck core? John.

I believe the hull to deck is screwed and then glassed. It's real substantial. As to plywood, no, but FW does use balsa cored upper deck. There is absolutely no wood below the waterline.

jvalich, thanks four your reply.

I locaded a 2005 288 Vista in Michigan. Options include Gen, A/H, WL, 5.0L VP OSI DP; (Freshwater only) under 50/H. Gen is locaded at starboard. Since you have the same boat, is there still room for servieceof gen and motors? Your help is greatle appreciated.
Thanks. John ....

The motors are very servicable. the Genset raw water pump is a bear. I had to remove the exhaust elbow on the starboard engine next to the genset to get at the pump. Fortunately the hose does not need to be removed. The front plate of the pump is removed and the impeller is in the pump.

Changing the impellor and having to remove the exhuast elbow forces me to inspect the elbow which periodically is a good thing.

Let me know if you have any othr questions.

jvalich;

the 2005-288Vista has the waterpumps front mounted, belt driven. Belt vs. direct drive? The waterpump for the GEN is just mounted inside the cover externally , on the end of the GEN with the impeller easily accessible. Was there a change in design. Thanks. Hans

Nope, the raw water pump on all Volvos are mounted external, belt driven and mounted at the lower center of the engine. The genset pump is behind the soundshield if a sound shield is present. It can be accessed by removing a small panel that snaps into place. The Genset pump is hard to access only becuase the way FW installed it. It's a tight squeeze into the starboard aft corner of the engine space. The space between the deck and exhaust elbow is the problem. I couldn't effectively get back there enough to see what I was doing. Removal of the exhaust elbow made it possible to reach and see a tad.

JVALICH

I'am close to make a offer on a 2004 288 Vita.The boat in queston has antyfouling paint applied, B U T hase no barriercoat applied. I am boating on Lake Ontario (Fresh water).
The boat will be slipt four 4 MONTHS

In the Fourwinns Owners Manual section C. Osmosic Blistering----

Osmotic blistering or "boat pox" is an unfortunate but not uncommon occurence in fiberglass boats. Fiberglass is water retardant, not waterproof.When a boat is left in the water for a period of time, the fiberglass will absorb water---- However, there are ways to control
and possibly prevent blisters.( sectin P-6)

Thanks for your opinion. John
