We installed a Jabsco manual head approx 1 year ago, its a pain and needs o-rings/flapper valve already.

Looking into upgrading to an electric/vacu flush. Anyone got any advice? Recommend one way or other?
Do electrics really use less water to flush? Do they ever plug? Do they need maint similar to the manual?
Big problem with current set up, everyone uses way to much water to flush, resulting in filling holding tank faster than 2 gallon port a potty we used on old cuddy for 8 years.

Also considering taking head out and going back to portable head. Cheaper, never plugs, never have to wait at marina pump out!! as port-a-potty sinks are much more abundant where we boat.

We have a vacu flush and love it. Flip a switch, and hit the pedal and down she goes.

The admiral says it reminds her of an airplane, only better.

The only issues we have had is making sure the pedal comes back up fast enough to seal the bowl and let the pump build pressure. If it doesn't seal all the way - there is a heck of a 'gurgle'

I've got the Jabsco Electric conversion kit installed on my manual head, and love it! Would I pay the $400 or so for the kit, probably not, but it was on the boat when we bought it. It's a bit load though, but works flawlessly.

thanks for the replies, I have seen the conversion kit on Jabsco's web site, but no prices, and have not found anyone whom sells the conversion kit. But if it's $400 bucks!!!!! You can buy an entire new electric for not much more, I did find a Vacuflush for $380 on Ebay.

Still thinking/gathering options.

The Jabsco conversion is a high maintenance item. Tends to leak. I replaced mine new electric base and used the Jabsco bowl. Found it new on Flea bay.

I would venture to say that retro fitting a vacu-flush would be tough given the fact that it requires a decent amount of footprint in the engine room for the pump system. I would guess it needs a 2x3 foot area. We like ours, never had experience with either electric or pump so I can't comment on their performance. Ours have always flushed like champs though.

I have a Jabsco fully electric toilet. The only issue I have had with it is the impeller needed to be greased. (of course it took me 2 months to figure it out and I now have a backup electric motor but it is solid as long as it is installed correctly.)

You may want to pull up on the pedal after flushing for the 10 seconds and that will pump water into the bowl quicker and seal the flush ball. As for vacu flush vs. electric or manual, I have had vacu flush for 9 years on my Four Winns and I never had any trouble (knock on wood) with the exception of some bimbo flushing her tampon down and clogging the Y-valve.
