I've seen the stickers sold by West Marine and the like. Does anyone know where I can get some aesthetically pleasing MARPOL/Pollution placards/decals? |

Go get the free ones from WM...why do they need to be "aesthetically pleasing"? Not like you have to post them in plain view. You heading to LM? |

My marpol trash sticker is stuck to the inside of a galley cabinet door and my pollution placard is in my engine room, neither is often visible. |

It's the Law. Quote: If your vessel is 26 feet or longer, you must display a 5 x 8-inch placard at the bilge pump control station stating the Federal Water Pollution Control Act's law. ![]() Quote: If boating on federally controlled waters and your vessel is 26 feet or longer, you must display a Garbage Disposal Placard that is at least 4 x 9 inches and notifies passengers and crew about discharge restrictions. Our placards are in the cabinet and readily accessible. They should be attached, but we have not had an issue as long as we have them. |

Actually the most "aesthetically" pleasing one I found was at Wal Mart in Port Clinton(Lake Erie). It is a small plastic placard white with black lettering. I unfortunately don't have a good place on the current vessel to hide one. I wanted to put it under the lid of the trash container but the lid is too small. I have yet to find a good place for one. I suppose I could mount one in the head compartment. Currently I have a West Marine decal taped near the trashcan so I can easily remove it when I find a good permanent spot. I also don't think it has to be anything special, but there are some restrictions. Size 4x9 inches and I think there might be a type size specification too. I have considered and still might print my own on paper and have it laminated to mount on board. |

Folks: Hope this helps. All boats 26 feet and over must display a proper size Garbage Dumping Restrictions Placard in a place clearly visible to all passengers. Boats 40 feet and over, that are ocean going or on the Great Lakes, must also have a written trash management plan. The written plan need not be complicated but must inform the reader who is in charge of trash disposal, where it will be stored and when and where disposal will take place. Oily Waste And Trash Disposal Placards. 1. Federal Requirements for Oily Waste Discharge. a. No person may operate a vessel of less than 100-gross tons unless it has a fixed or portable means to discharge oily bilge slops to a reception facility. b. No person may operate a vessel, except a foreign vessel or a vessel less than 26 feet in length, unless it has a placard at least 5 x 8 inches, made of durable material, fixed in a conspicuous place in the machinery spaces, or at the bilge and ballast pump control station, stating the following: DISCHARGE OF OIL PROHIBITED The Federal Water Pollution Control Act prohibits the discharge of oil or oily waste into or upon the navigable waters of the United States, or the waters of the contiguous zone, or which may affect natural resources belonging to, appertaining to, or under the exclusive management authority of the United States, if such discharge causes a film or discoloration of the surface of the water or causes a sludge or emulsion beneath the surface of the water. Violators are subject to substantial civil penalties and/or criminal sanctions including fines and imprisonment. |
