Post subject:  268 Hatch Gasket Replacement

Has anyone ever replaced their 268 deck hatch gasket? Our hatch is leaking and I'm pretty sure that's the culprit. Just not sure if we have a size 18" or 22". I measured it and it measured 20" LOL. Ours is a 2000 Vista 268. Also, any clues on where to but this online?

Thanks!

I can't comment as to the hatch size. However, the hatch in my 2004 Sundowner was so badly fitted that the original foam sealing strip had no chance of sealing it against the deck. My advice would be to remove the hatch/ foam and rebed the hatch frame on a reasonable bead of white rsilicone sealant.

Welcome to the wonderful world of having a hatch that is no longer made and neither the boat builder or the hatch manufacturer stocks or makes parts for them anymore. I had my hinge plate break and ended up having one machined out of aluminum because there are no parts available. This is my only real rant about my 2000 268.

I have a 2000 268 Vista and I replaced the gasket 2 years ago. Your hatch should be a Lewmar Concept hatch. The bad news: I went back to the info I got from Lewmar and checked their website and the seal kit that I ordered from them is no longer available. That is bad news for all of us with this hatch. You may want to try some kind of automotive foam gasket in order to redo the gasket but otherwise your out of luck trying to get a factory replacement gasket. The only other option: replace the entire hatch. You may be able to get the same repalcement hatch from your Four Winns dealer as they still show the entire hatch on their parts website or you can have a fiberglaas guy try to install a new, different hatch. Both cases $$$$$$. I can teel you that replacing thje gasket was tough and now I will make sure to take extra special care of it to avoid any damage. Good Luck!
