I tried to take the boat out this weekend into the ocean and fish with some new rods. First time fishing in the ocean. I love it. Here is the problem. My bait fish kept dying as I only had them in a bucket. I have a 07 258 Vista and need advice on a bait well with an aerorator. I can't seem to find a good one that will keep the fish alive. I am looking at a 15-30 gallon one. Also what is the power source for this device? Many thanks. I might just have to bottom fish and do the squid thing but bait fish is so much more enjoyable. I hooked a decent size mackerel with one of the few surviving bait fish that I had |

If your swim step can accommodate it, you can either buy or build a bait tank. On my funship, I took the white-trash approach and build one out of a plastic garbage can which I strap to the swim step. I mounted a pump on the transom with a pipe to keep water flowing through the tank for aeration. Power currently (pun intended) comes from my anchor light receptacle - I bought a cheap pole from Wal-Mart and cut it short while using the wires to connect to the pump ![]() How about something like this: http://tinyurl.com/yengejp |
