Now that the boat is away for the winter it's time to research my winter project, and I am thinking of putting a windlass on my 2000 248. Just woundering what people have on theirs and what works well and what doesn't. Pictures if you have any would help as I'm looking at installing this myself.

Thanks

I couldn't find where they were a factory option on the four winns parts site. If you have room I would definitely go with a vertical unit, either Maxwell freedom 500 or Lewmar v700, both good units. I dint know any better when I put one on and did a horizontal unit. Works fine doesn't look quite as nice a s the verticals do, and my anchor rode jumps off every once in awhile, something I don't think can happen with the vertical ones.

We have a 2008 V248 with a factory installed Maxwell Windless and love it! I don't have any close up photos but I did find a "stock" photo of our boat in our photo album; hope it helps.

I have a 258 witha a Lewmar "sprint 400" factory installed. I have installed
the same one on my 24' polar. They worked like a charm and never had any
problems. I din't have any experance with Maxwell, but it was an upgrade
for my boat. I like Lewmar and when my dies I'm replacing it with a V700.

The bigest thing is the backing plate and anckor locker space. Buying the right
rode is another big thing. Make sure you get what the manufacture recomands
for the rode, If you don't then you going to get alot of tangles and problems.
I've installed a windlass on more that one boat so if you need info I will be glad to help.

It saved my marrige and my wifes back! I would never owne a boat without
one again.
