Post subject:  288 Shower Plumbing

I have a 2006 288 that has the shower sump pump running to the black water tank. The sinks all drain directly overboard through the through-hull. I live in a state that allows grey water to be emptied overboard. Has anyone re-plumbed their shower so that it pumps overboard? I'm thinking about buying a Whale pump and installing it under the bathroom sink. Then using a Y valve to tie into the sink line and installing a back flow valve so that the discharge doesn't exit through the sink. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2007 288 and mine drains to a separate sump pump box under the quarter berth right beside the forward bilge pump--and ultimately off the boat via a through-hull. The same through hull as the forward bilge…I can’t see it but it must be T’d-in somewhere after the forward bilge area. As far as I know this setup came stock from the factory. I have had to replace the auto-float in the box--it kept sticking after showers keeping the pump on. The short answer is yes; it can be done, and has been done—at least on my 288.

Thank you for the response. While I was working on the boat last month, I poured some water down the shower drain and it pumped out on the side of the boat. What a relief. I was not ready for another project.
