Post subject:  dock/boat protection?

I dock at a marina with floating slips. They have placed rubber strips around the dock sides but I find that often does not provide enough protection, especially since I am new to docking with I/O's as opposed to Inboards so I have "bumped" the dock a few times. I always use fenders at the stern and mid cleat hanging from the boat but want to further my protection by adding protection on the dock. A Sea Ray owner next to me has tied fenders horizontally along the dock for this protection and it works very well and doesnt look too bad. I was thinking about doing this with some cheap fenders. what do you think? any suggestions or pictures of what you guys do? The rubber that is there is ok, but it is worn in places and in those spots you can see the HD staples they used to connect it to the dock. I dont foresee the marina replacing it anytime soon and dont want the staples hitting the gelcoat. I know there is thicker deck edging but compared to a cost of $10 a fender its not the cheapest solution

Sounds like it needs additional protection. Don't scrimp on the fenders. Make sure they will protect the boat during a storm.

It's what I have done for years in addition to on-board fenders and it works great. Mine is placed where a fender on the stern cleat would hit, eliminating the need to tie one to that cleat when at the home dock. I keep a fender sock on my fixed dock fender as well. It should still be the recommended size for your boat.

Spend the money.. for a couple hundred bucks - you can be fully setup and never have to worry about putting bumpers out when you dock.

I have 6 of these + 2 corder fenders. Also have extra lines mounted on the dock at the exact length.... mooring and departing is brainless. I can nail it solo, the wife has it down, friends pick it up with ease...

They also come in 3 packs for 49.99. 10% bing cashback, and free shipping if you spend enough.

They are only 1/2 thickness - so you don't need an extra wide slip for them.
