I have a 2003 Vista 378. My boat has a switch for the Aft Bilge Pump. Does this switch have to be on, for this pump to come on, when I am not on the boat?

No. It will come on by itself via float switch if needed. Same with the forward bilge. That of course is assuming the boat has batteries installed/and or is connected to shore power. The pump will work automatically even with the battery switch off.

Check the manual or this spec sheet to review what your boat has as standard or options. The automatic bilge pump can be found in the "Engine Compartment" section of the brochure.

I am pretty sure that it is an NMMA requirement to have an automatic bilge pump on most all boats, especially one of the 378's size.

The switch at the helm should only be used to turn on the pump manually. On my 2006 378, the light on the pump helm switch will turn on whether the helm switch is activated manually or if the float switch on the pump turns on the pump.
