We spend a week or more at a time on our boat. We went the cheap way, and bought one of those egg crate foam mattress pads. We just laid it out in the V-berth and cut it with scissors to the shape and size of the v-berth entire area. Comforter over that , then the usual bedding over that. It was a major improvement over just the stock cushions, I would imagine it would do well over a mattress too.

We just roll it up and stow it in the bow storage compartment, when the bed is not made.

Get a memory foam mattress topper, at least 2 inches thick. We tried the egg crate foam and an inflateable bed and found the memory foam far superior.

I bought a piece of foam from them custom-cut to fit the bed of my truck. They have a ton of different kinds to choose from and can cut it to fit just about anything, in multiple thicknesses. If it were me, I'd go with some of the nicer "memory" type foam 3-4 inches thick.
