This is one I have been wanting to to since I bought the boat, I hated the unfinished look look of the lower edge of the SP. Not to mention I scraped it on piece of metal on a dock. I just found the photos

We need more details, cost, etc!

Any pics of the underside?

Mine looked like this when I bought it,

Thanks to the careless forklift operators...

Its back to new now, but I've never liked the bottom edge of the FW extended platform, on this boat or my 225.

Are you kidding me??? I wouldn't think that is acceptable to have the forklift operators scraping up your boat when they launch. I cant believe the previous owners didn't have the marina fix their screw ups.

I don't quite remember cost, I know I lucked out on the stainless portion of the rub rail, the local west marine had ordered it for another customer and they stuck them with it. At 20" long the trucking was going as much as the rub rail was. The vinyl portion of it I purchased form the Four Winn's dealer. It is semi rigid but they were able to roll it up small enough to UPS. I think the vinyl was around 50.00 and the stainless was about 90.00

I made out very nicely on the deal. The previous owners were an older retired couple, he died two years before we purchased it. She hadn't seen the boat since. I'd rather get it done right myself than have a poor marina in AL get it done wrong.

I got quite a nice discount to take it as is.

And I can't blame the forklift operators to much, I was suprised they dry stacked that boat there. It barely fit on the forklift. It was the biggest boat in there.

The rub rail on the ESP was the first modification I made since it was getting all scratched and chipped since we use a dingy to row out to her. I ordered the parts from the local FW dealer and it was drop shipped to my house for about $125. Unfortunately I don't take many pictures!

jsimon...very nice fix there.

fire...I have a small chip on a molded area like the end of your swim platform. Did you photo document how you fixed it? I will probably still have my glass guy do the work but curious how your came out.

WD,
Just as I did other gel coat chips. I'll get some pics of it when I get the boat out of storage in two months. You can't tell the repair was made. Spectrum color gel coat, with the area prepped normally and sanded afterwards. The bottom edge is a pain to get smooth, but it is doable. I think I did two coats if I remember right.

And I now know why I like its look, my 225 had it around its swim platform.

Nice upgrades. How did your windlass installation go? I was looking into a horizontal windlass hoping to utilize the existing hawse pipe hole and avoid all that filling and cutting a new hole. The measurements showed that the aft mounting bolts were going to fall behind the anchor locker bulkhead so I abandoned that plan.

Good measuring.... On the Lewmar unit I used, the Pro 700, 2 of the 3 bolts did fall rearward of the anchor bulkhead. They fell reight between the bulkhead and the piece that both shades the front flouresent light and holds the 2 front speakers in it. I cant remember exactly how it was but I know once it is all put back together it was not an issue. Once the windlass is installed, and the bolts cut off, the light mounted over the mounting stud nuts.

Hey Jsimon,

I've got a section of rub rail I want to replace this Spring. Actually, I think I'll get away with just replacing the stainless steel insert. How hard/easy was that insert to bend? Any tips?

Great work on the boat!

Andy how big is the section? I'm going to be ordering some here shortly to do the rub rail addition on the swim platform. Let me know if you need me to order you some, the shipping is outrageous!

Thanks...

It isnt too bad to roll around the corners, i think the key is to have a pretty good length of insert, so you have something to hang on too as it is rolled around a corner (if that makes sense). After I finished, I looked closely at how it would have been ot put the main rubrail on.... the V in the bow, they must have a jig or something, and were the rubrail curves downward on both sides of the hull, not sure how easy that would be. I just worked from the center out, using clamps and screws as I went, when I started around the corners, I measuered and cut it alittle long, and finished securing it, the made the final cut (very carefully)

Did you use sealant at the ends or just sand it down? I noticed Taco sells this end cap, not sure if I'd like how it looks on there or not.

Image

I'm ordering mine soon.

No I just square cut them at the transition of the SP and hull. I was worried it might not look right, but it looks fine IMO. I tried to find some sort of termination ends like shown, but couldnt find them for that insert.

Just to update this thread, what a difference a model year makes.

I went today to install the plastic conduit in my front storage compartment, only to find its different than jsimons. He has an '03 while I have an '04.

Bottom looks the same...

Image

The upper part doesn't....

Image

I think I will just constuct something to keep the items I store in there up and off the center V section, so water can flow through.

On the plus side, today was my first time in my cabin since last fall. When we bought the boat, the cabin/bilge smelled pretty bad. I cleaned it out pretty thorougly, and had a bunch of Bounce dryer sheets left in and around the boat while it was in storage. I went into the cabin and it smelled fine. I won't be sealing up the two openings that the water/waste hoses pass through to get from the cabin to the engine compartment now.

Two of my quick projects down!
