A couple folks have asked for some pics of my latest project/mod.

Plain and simple, I have the flex-teak platform on the v318, and I love the look. I wanted to bring that look into the cockpit. What better way than doing the Teak carpet kit!

The factory offers this as an option now for a couple hundred bucks. I was able to order up a new carpet kit straight from the factory. Took about 6 weeks, but it was worth the wait.

Took 10 minutes to do the mod... Totally changes the feel of the cockpit. I definitely love it.

Just an example, here is a comparison of the normal, factory carpet - and the teak carpet.

Here is the helm after:

Here's an overall shot of the new kit:

Something I noted that I appreciated is that where 2 peices of carpet are visually close, they aligned the lines from the carpet:

There's aftermarket options for this as well... I went factory because of Ryan and Winnisquam.

WOW! That looks great! It's amazing how much that transforms the look and feel of the cockpit. Is that carpet available from FW for older models like a 05 268?

I am sure they can do it if they have the templates for your boat (which they should).

It'd definitely be more on the custom side since your boat didn't/doesn't have it as an option.

You can also check some online shops... Corinthian marine can make it up for you - or there is another shop -- 'snap in carpet.com' or something (firecadet knows I think).

It totally changed the look of the cabin. Even the admiral was impressed (and she liked the old carpet)

except maybe like 30 degrees to the left... like where my finger pier is, to show it all. Thanks man!

Whats the backing? The typical black rubber?

It'll be a few days until I can get more pics, but I'll work on it.

Yes, it's the factory, black, hexagonal, rubber backing.

Ugh, still the black rubber backing? It's the ONE reason I will probably go aftermarket for new carpets. The black stuff just doesn't hold up, and leaves a heckuva mess behind when it does start to fail. I've never seen a carpet wear out on the top, it's always that crappy backing that dies first.

That teak pattern does look nice! I may see about finding it aftermarket.

Here's a pic of a Teak Aquamat set for a 29' Tiara Coronet we just made. It's not a Four Winns, but you get the idea! Hoping to have install pics up soon!

Is that done with the ribbed backing? I've heard good things about that instead of the black flat rubberized sheet kind of backing. Does it stay in place similarly? As in, is it heavy enough and the backing 'grippy' enough to stay in place without snaps? I'd prefer to avoid putting down snaps. They hurt like hell to step on when the carpet's not down (and even a bit when it's all installed). But I'd be willing to put in one or two in strategic locations to aid in keeping them in place.

I need to get some ordered for this coming season. The backing on my old ones was crumbling and leaving the black dust behind. Do you have a template already for the FW Vista 348/358 models?

Speaking of which, has anyone else had different carpets made for their 348/358? I'm wondering if it'd be possible to rearrange how the 348 cockpit carpet is laid out. It currently has an L-shaped portion that extends to the transom door. I'm thinking about changing the cockpit section of the carpet to use two pieces, one for the main section under the table and another from the transom forward to the edge under the icemaker and sink console. For two reasons, one because the transom section gets wet all the time, either from rain or water sloshing back in from the transom. Secondly because that section flaps down when you raise the engine hatch and then gets stuck in it when lowered again. Not a 'big deal' but if I'm doing new carpets then would be the time to correct it. I'm just wondering if a strip-like section toward the fridge would be a good idea or not. Or maybe run the carpet all the way to the port side and just leave off the transom L-section to a separate piece?

Yes, pictures would help... but it's under the cover right now.

I'm pretty sure you need to template what you want for Corinthian -- but that's just a little butcher paper.

I would have done the ribbed background, but I got a too-good-a-deal on the factory setup from Ryan@winnisquam.

Yes, this sure does have the Aqualoc grey vinly ribbed backing. The ribs definitely help the carpet stay in place. A lot of people don't even bother with snaps, because the backing is so heavy and 'grippy' Obviously, smaller pieces (i.e. steps, etc) would want to be snapped for safety reasons and to avoid them from blowing away.

I actually don't have any templates right now for a 348/358, so I'd need you to send me one. If you'd like a free sample of the Teak carpet with the Aqualoc backing, just drop me a PM.

BTW, the carpets look great in the pics above Cougar Cruiser! Sounds like you got a smokin' deal on them? I'm hoping to post up some installed pics of some Teak carpets we did for a '06 Four Winns 258 shortly...

man that looks real nice....Can someone point me in the right direction for an 03 328 vista? Would I go through the factory?? or after market that would be a nice mod, even though I don't have the flex teak swim platform.

Check with your dealer -- but they would need to make the the supplier has the right templates for the carpet on your boat.

Otherwise, template the carpet yourself and use someone like Corinthian or snap-in-carpet.com or whichever that site is.

It's awesome!
