One of mine broke last season and we rigged up a custom hose because it was so hard to find the actual replacement hose. Apparently it was a hot item flying off the shelves. Long story short, the custom hose is not 100% water tight and Im looking to replace it with the actual part soon. My question is why is this thing breaking so often on the 268 Vistas? At first glance its an extremely tight fit. I would say some not so great engineering.

Volvo drive? I had to replace them on my OMC Cobra but it was 17 years old by then and I think it was a result of one of the hoses getting cut by marine growth (barnacles which can be really sharp)..

I had the same engine/drive on my '04 225 as I do on my '04 268, and have not had an issue with the trim hoses. I had to replace one on my Sea Ray 185's Mercruiser because my son inadvertantly stepped on it while swimming.

10 years with original hoses on our 268 with DP drive. I expect them to last another 3 or 4 years for us or the next owner.

no problem with my trim hoses on my 2004 drive ( yet!). Where did your hose fail? Both pairs on mine are held in place on the transom by metal brackets, if not constrained like they are they would move around a lot more and I imagine they could abrade on the inside of the transom shield.
