Only if you can subtract the price of a new long block. Also you'd want to at least run it in the water temporarily to check the condition of the drive.

This boat definitely has potential. The trailer is an upgrade over the standard steel Four Winns unit and is worth about $1.5K in additional value. If you are willing to put some elbow grease and some more money into this unit I believe you would have a unit that could sell for $22-25K. Offer them $9K expect to spend almost another 6-10K (motor and possible drive + misc other items)

Keep us informed as to your decision and how the dealings go. You may want to have a marine surveyor give the boat a once over too before you make the offer.

These are the kind of deals I look for all the time.... Wish I had found it !

I agree in that if you can buy it at the right price....and the hull, deck and transom have no rot or other damage (gets very expensive and time consuming if it's wood rot) and you don't mind the time it will take to get it in shape with a new engine....drive needs to be checked too....trim ram replaced...all of this is do-able at the right price....unless you want a boat to run right now in which case I'd pass....

That's a 'fixer upper'.

I would absolutely expect to spend 7500-10k on a new motor/drive setup. And Volvo duoprops by themselves will run you almost 1200-1500 for a set.

If you buy if for 10k, have to put another 10k into it... you're 20k into a boat that you could easily sell for 20-25.

I would say it's a project that would become a labor of love.

Can you find one in great shape for the same 20-25k that this one would cost you?

Considering I had A-holes offering me 20-25K for my 06 248 which is, dare I say, in far better shape than that boat, I'd say negative, you can't sell it for 25K.

I wouldn't spend more than 6K on that boat and that would be a stretch.

I may put my 248 back up for sale, not because I want to, more because I am worried about paying for all the bills now.. And I'm sure I'll be lucky to get what I want for my 06 and I just paid 57K for it what? 3 seasons ago?

I know this thread is old... but ...

THAT IS MY BOAT!!!

In 2008 I hit hard times unfortunately, and surrendered it back to the bank, they took it April 2009. I know its mine because I matched the hull ID number just now to my registration (which I still have) and thats my old trailer too (matched the VIN to my purchase order).

I just want to add- I did NOT leave it dirty, propless, and without the table! That happened afterwards apparently. And I did have it winterized by my mechanic, I bet they fired it up when they repo-ed it and never re-winterized it... Sad. The trim cylinder leaked when I had it, and I had a spare one I bought on ebay that I was going to replace, but it ended up going to the bank and I still have the ram in my garage!

Anyways, I wonder what ever happened with (my) old boat. I wish I had seen this last year!

For the record, I paid $5,000 for that phoenix trailer and had endless problems with the stupid reverse/safety braking mechanism. Nice trailer (aluminum - I paid extra for that) but crappy peripherals. I paid $20,000 for the Vista in 2006, $25,000 total package including the trailer.

Looking at it now, I guess its probably time for me to edit my signature!! LOL. If you were wondering why Ive been absent from the site, well, now you have your answer

The same year, size and make of boat has been on e-bay for weeks. He is trying to get $19,000.00 for it and it appears to be in decent shape. No takers.

Hey, next time you see that boat on ebay, post a link... Ill letchya know if its my old boat or not

With that being said, that chapter in my life is now officially over... I brought home a very mint condition 1991 Sundowner 255 with 280 hours today!! It rides so nice, very comparable to my old Vista.
