Post subject:  Wake Board Tower on a 2007 Vista 258

I was at the Chicago Boat Show and FW is showing a Sport Tower for the 258 this year. Would anyone consider the current 258 as a viable novice water sport craft? I was looking at the Volvo Gxi DP as the power option.

We are trying to find something that is a compromise boat that can pull a wake boarder and still be usable for a small cruiser for me and the wife. My guess by the seating is that 6-7 on board for cruising is about max for this boat. We love the 288 or 318 but need something to provide water sport activities for a few years.

Several other manufacturers show a similar feature on their 26-27' cruisers and I was wondering how this compares.

We opted to by a good used FW 170 Freedom for the water sports thingy...considering the fuel a 258 would use towing a wake board and the speed at which you would pull them, fuel use IMHO, would be prohibitive.

If you need to make sharp turns for your watersports, completely rule out a 268 and larger. They are just out of their element when it comes to serious watersports. They can be used for watersports, but infrequently and with much to be desired, except for the size of the wake.

You would be better off with a large cuddy, or bowrider if you do serious watersports.
