It has been at least one year since this has been done. I know how to do it yet have never done it on this boat before. First thing I need is the correct part #. I have the 5.7L Volvo Penta. Not the 7.4L. Also any good tips, tricks or advice from you guys that have been working on your Volvos for years? The closest I have been able to narrow the search down to is http://ww2.sierramarine.com/catalog_pdf ... 24-778.pdf. |

This site should get you the part #. You may need more info on your engine though. http://www.volvopentastore.com/Gasoline ... _id.342338 |

I'd highly recommend the volvo penta website as well to get the proper part number. There have been multiple changes to the impeller kit part number and there is a bulletin on the correct current part number to be used for the various styles of pump. Another advantage is that the parts catalog is part of an exploded illustration and I found it helpful to understand the whole cooling system setup. |

I picked up mine from a local dealer, and my old impeller was in good enough shape to keep as a spare |

I see from your pictures that you are in a wet slip. I mentioned this on another thread, when I tied to change mine in the water recently I discovered that the pump is below the water line and that there was not enough flexibility to pull it up and stop to flow of water. Now admittedly I was planning to pull the boat the following weekend anyway, so I did not get real creative trying to find a solution. Just be forewarned that you may be dealing with a steady flow of water while you make the swap. |

Just after I posted this I found the volvo penta website and I am headed up to the boat this afternoon to get the exact model before I order the impeller kit. Kind of overwhelming if you don't have the exact number. ![]() Buoy: Thanks for the heads up! Does it let in more water than the bilge pump can expel? Guess I'll have to be quick. I did see this on another post of yours and someone made the comment about vice grips and wooden shims on the inlet hose to clamp-it-off while you change it out. Anyone you know try this method yet. Unfortunately I do not have a trailer and I just had it pulled out 2 weekends ago to service the outdrive and acid wash the bottom paint. They wanted $100 for the impeller and $200 for labor. That is why I am gonna do it myself! ![]() |

It never got to the point where my bilge pump kicked on, but I don't think it would have a problem keeping up. I was surprised based on my previous experience with the 278 and I kept thinking that it was just draining the water in the block... and draining... and draining... daayyaam that's a lot of water. ![]() Just have everything ready to go, impeller out, lubed up with the glycerin, etc. I'd do it if I did not have a trailer. It's really a very easy process. |

When I did ours which is also below the waterline, I just jammed a tapered wooden plug into the hose opening. |
