Does any318 owners know if a 2005 6hp mercury engine would fit in the storage compartment if the shelf was removed?

Thanks-jim

I doubt it. Plus, that stern locker is really handy for lines and fenders when you need to ready for mooring NOW...

As for the 6 hp. why not under a cockpit seat?

I've seen someone with a 2004 268 (I think) keep their 6hp in the rear locker. But the design of the rear lockers has changed since then and I'm not sure there's enough width to allow for the full length of the outboard.

Frankly, there really isn't a good place to stow an outboard on the current model Vistas. A small Tohatsu 2-stroke is about all you can reliably stow. Our 9hp Johson doesn't really fit anywhere. Thus we'll be going with a flat mounted dinghy setup on the swim platform this year.

Otherwise I picked up a big gym duffel bag for it. I put a sheet of closed-cell foam in it to help keep the prop from banging ankles and denting gelcoat. They sell outboard bags but I had a big enough one on hand already.
